The Language of The M.Y. Classic
The names within The M.Y. Classic were never intended to be conventional colour labels.
Rather than relying solely on conventional colour labels — black, cream, navy, brown — I wanted each shade to carry something more personal: memory, symbolism, atmosphere, and fragments of my own life.
Many of these names are informed by people, places, languages, aesthetics, and quieter meanings that have shaped me over time.
In creating them, I was drawn toward names that felt more intimate, distinctive, and slightly elusive — names that could belong not only to a colour, but to a world, hence why I call them Muses.
There were originally 7 Muses of this collection; however, I decided to make it 8 to celebrate this new chapter.
⸻
DIANARA (DYA-NARA) — Rose Champagne
Named after myself, Dianara is perhaps the most personal expression within the collection.
Rose-champagne in tone, it reflects softness, warmth, femininity, and the ongoing process of becoming — a colour informed by personal aesthetics, refinement, and self-authorship.
⸻
SOMBRA (SOHM-BRA) — Black
Meaning shadow, Sombra represents resilience, quiet perseverance, and the work that often unfolds away from visibility.
To me, it reflects the beauty of building in silence — of continuing forward without immediate recognition, while remaining rooted in purpose and refinement.
⸻
MEZZANOTTE (METZ-AH-NOH-TEH) — Navy
Meaning midnight in Italian, Mezzanotte was shaped by romantic European atmospheres, evening elegance, and the quieter allure of darker palettes.
Alongside Malva, it belongs to a softer world of candlelit cities and refined nostalgia.
⸻
MALVA (MAL-VAH)— Muted Mauve
Soft, muted, and quietly expressive, Malva reflects romanticism, softness, and a certain European sensibility that has long inspired me aesthetically.
A colour intended to feel understated, feminine, and quietly transportive.
⸻
DANIRA (DA-NEER-AH) — Pearl White
Named after my younger sister, Danica, Danira holds a deeply personal place within the collection.
Luminous, soft, and minimal, it reflects warmth, closeness, and a gentler expression of white — something personal rather than purely clinical or conventional.
⸻
FIENA (FEE-YEN-AH) — Warm Ivory
Fiena is named after the Lusitano mare who introduced me to the equestrian life.
She was the very first horse I rode — endlessly patient, grounding, and instrumental in helping me find tranquility, build confidence, and fall in love with riding.
Warm, soft, and quietly elegant, this shade carries those memories with it.
⸻
CLEONE (CLEE-OH-NEE) — Warm Cocoa
To me, Cleone represents a sense of being grounded.
Its richer brown tone evokes foundation, steadiness, and the quieter side of ambition — the accumulated work, discipline, and structure beneath visible achievement.
A reminder that refinement is often built patiently.
⸻
RUBRAIA (RU-BRAY-AH) — Ruby Crimson
Rubraia draws from my own middle name, Rubillar, and from my birthstone: ruby.
Created as a richer, more expressive limited release within The M.Y. Classic, it represents warmth, celebration, individuality, and personal symbolism.
Introduced to mark an early chapter of MIREA YANA, Rubraia carries a quieter sense of personal history translated through colour.
⸻
I hope these names allow you to see The M.Y. Classic not simply as a collection of colours, but as a language of memory, atmosphere, and meaning — one I have loved bringing into being.
With much love,
Maria Diana ꨄ
