The Dulcinea Initiative

The Dulcinea Initiative is an evolving initiative centred around education, intellectual curiosity, opportunity, and meaningful forms of support.

I created it as a space for a long-term commitment to giving, mentorship, creativity, and meaningful forms of support beyond product. It is not a formal foundation, but rather an evolving initiative I aim to grow thoughtfully over time.

The Dulcinea Initiative also reflects an evolving exploration of social purpose within MIREA YANA. I do not believe that building a financially sustainable company and creating meaningful forms of social contribution have to exist in opposition. As the company grows, I hope that growth may also create greater opportunities to contribute beyond the business itself.

At its heart, Dulcinea is rooted in a belief that meaningful support can help create opportunities and capabilities for others—to learn, create, lead, and imagine broader possibilities for themselves.

As MIREA YANA continues to grow, so too may the ways in which it contributes beyond itself.

WHY IT EXISTS

The Dulcinea Initiative began with a broader question: how might MIREA YANA create value beyond the products it sells?

I believe that a business can pursue financial sustainability while also considering the opportunities its growth may create for others. For me, social purpose is not separate from building a company; it is part of considering what that company can eventually make possible.

Education, creativity, and intellectual curiosity have long been personal interests and recurring themes within MIREA YANA. Through Dulcinea, I hope to explore how these values can extend beyond the brand itself through practical forms of support.

At its core, the initiative is guided by a belief that access to knowledge, encouragement, resources, and opportunity can help people build capabilities of their own.

The goal is not simply to give, but to consider how even small forms of support can contribute to what others are able to learn, create, and do.

WHY "DULCINEA"

The name Dulcinea draws inspiration from Don Quixote, one of my favourite ballets and a work that has held personal significance for me.

Dulcinea represents an ideal: unseen yet deeply influential, symbolic yet powerful. I was drawn to the idea of something that can shape meaning quietly, without needing to announce itself loudly.

That spirit felt fitting for this initiative—a project I want to build gradually, thoughtfully, and authentically.

GIVING

The Dulcinea Initiative currently supports education and opportunity through both global and local forms of giving.

On a big scale, 5% of proceeds from each MIREA YANA purchase is donated to Plan International Canada in support of initiatives advancing the rights and opportunities of girls.

Locally, Dulcinea is beginning to explore ways of supporting elementary-school educators and classrooms by contributing toward supplies for students.

As the initiative develops, these efforts may continue to expand in response to where support can be most useful.

LOOKING FORWARD

The Dulcinea Initiative remains in its early stages.

I do not believe purpose has to arrive fully formed. Sometimes, it begins by paying attention to what already exists at the heart of what you are building—and asking how it might eventually create possibilities beyond itself.

Like MIREA YANA itself, Dulcinea is something I intend to build thoughtfully, one step at a time.

For now, it begins with a belief:

The pursuit of knowledge can create opportunities beyond ourselves.
